At any given point, I am usually in the middle of at least two or three different books. Normally, they all are of the same genre- like these edge-of-your-seat novels, but this group is totally different. One is a sort of 'how-to', another is a memoir, and the third is an inspirational daily read. Shrug. I guess sometimes things just don't need to make sense. Are you reading anything great I should know about? Please share in the comments below or on Facebook or twitter!
1. The Diamond Cutter: The Buddha on Managing Your Business and Your Life. I had heard great things about this book, so I picked it up and have found it really interesting so far. The author, a monk with over twenty two years of study, uses ancient teachings from Buddhism and his own experience in New York's diamond district to explain how Buddhist principles can be applied to business and everyday life.
2. Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison. I love memoirs, and this one keeps you on your toes. It's about a woman who is arrested and convicted for money laundering and drug smuggling and winds up going to federal prison. It's a sobering look into daily life behind bars.
3. The Book of Awakening. I have been reading this book forever. It's an inspirational daybook, from philosopher and cancer-survivor Mark Nepo. I often use it when looking for inspiration for creating a good theme for my yoga class, before meditation, or whenever I feel like I could use a little more positivity. It's a beautifully written, uplifting book that reminds us to appreciate all that we have.
PS- More good reads.
